South Africa
Ewan McGregor talks about the work that UNICEF and its partners are doing in South Africa to help support children who have lost their parents to HIV and AIDS.
The project has two strands. Firstly, it provides child and youth care workers to work with child-headed households, where families have lost both parents to HIV and AIDS and the older children end up looking after the younger ones, often sacrificing their own childhood in the process. Secondly, it involves building ‘safe parks’, which are fenced-off, supervised areas that provide a safe environment within the community for children to play and learn.
